# Pastery

> Find anything you copied — instantly. Pastery is a native macOS clipboard manager with a searchable visual history. It records everything you copy — text, images, links, colors, and files — and lets you find and paste any of it instantly.

Pastery is built by Flinge ApS and runs natively on macOS 15 (Sequoia) and later, including Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. All data is stored locally on the user's Mac. Nothing leaves the device — no cloud sync, no telemetry.

## Key features

- **Overview Mode**: A full-window clipboard browser with a visual grid of all clipboard history. A sidebar filters by content type (image, text, link, color, file), source application, and date range.
- **Image OCR search**: Every screenshot copied is indexed by Apple Vision OCR in the background. Users can search for text visible inside screenshots — error messages, URLs, code snippets — and find the image instantly.
- **Visual cards**: Each clipboard item renders as a typed card — screenshots as thumbnails, links with rich previews, hex colors as swatches, text as formatted excerpts.
- **Text transforms**: Before pasting a text clip, users can apply transforms: uppercase, lowercase, title case, trim whitespace, format JSON, minify JSON, decode URL encoding, strip HTML. The modified version is pasted; the original stays unchanged in history.
- **Pinboards**: Any clip can be pinned with ⌘P so it is excluded from the retention sweep and never expires. Pinned clips can be organized into named, color-coded boards, which appear as chips next to the search field in both the quick list and the full history view. Added in version 1.3.2.
- **Filters**: History can be narrowed by content type, source application, and date range.
- **Privacy**: Local-only SQLite database. No accounts, no internet connection required, no clipboard data ever transmitted.

## How Pastery compares to alternatives

**vs Maccy**: Maccy is free and handles plain text only. Pastery adds image OCR search, visual cards, Overview Mode with filters, and text transforms. Maccy is suitable for text-only workflows; Pastery handles screenshots and deeper history retrieval.

**vs Paste**: Paste has iCloud sync across Mac, iPhone, and iPad, plus a permanently free 100-item tier. Both apps have Pinboards (permanent named clip collections) — Pastery added them in 1.3.2. Pastery is Mac-only and local-only, but has OCR image search, Overview Mode with app and date filters, and text transforms — none of which Paste offers. For Mac-only users who need to retrieve older items or search inside screenshots, Pastery is the stronger choice.

**vs Raycast**: Raycast includes basic clipboard history as part of a broader launcher. It handles text and images but has no OCR search, no per-type filtering, and no text transforms. Users who want dedicated clipboard capabilities beyond what a launcher provides use Pastery.
